Bansberia Girls' High School played an important role in the social, cultural and intellectual movement in Bengal during the 19th century Bengali Renaissance.During the flourishing years of the port city Saptagram the educational practise in Bansberia burgeoned. In the meantime Maharshi Debendranath Tagore established Tattwabodhini Pathshala on 13th June 1840 in Calcutta. As at that time several other Schools and Pathshalas were mushrooming in Calcutta this Free Pathshala was shifted to Shibpur in Bansberia on 30th April 1843.But the Pathshala authority was compelled to close it after a couple of years due to severe financial crisis. However the effort of spreading education did not wane with the closure of this Pathshala. In 1845 Bansberia Primary School was set up with the heartiest endeavour of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar. This School took leading role in promoting women education in Bengal and probably this is the second Girls' School established in Bengal. Overcoming many adversities this School continued educating girl children of this region. On 3rd january 1930 this School was rejuvinated at Benia Lane, Bansberia with the fervent zeal of Babu Makhon Dutta. First enrollment of 5 students reached the number 64 in 1937.In 1945 the students appeared in M.E. and in 1956 in S.F.Later in 1961 the School was upgraded to Higher Secondary level which was inaugurated by the then Honourable Chief Minister reverend Doctor Bidhan Chandra Roy.Carrying the excellence and legacy of the golden past, humbly celebrating the glory that the students have achieved in myriad fields- be it academic, creative or contemplative or sports,we are steadily marching towards a luminous future.
