
Mahesh Sri Potti Sriramulu Andhra High School caters to the educational needs of Telugu people settled here in Hooghly district of West Bengal. It is the only educational institution, a recognised Telugu medium high school in the entire Hooghly district. The historical legacy of this school is completely a matter to be appreciated. Working class community settled in Mahesh, Rampuria working in different jute, cotton mills and a car making factory in Hindmotor have conceived a plan for establishing a school of their own unique in its spirit and heart. But the gigantic task was might have been impossible one unless and until the Telugu people from other areas like Konnagar, Telinipara, Gondalpara and Bally not come forward. As the joint spirit of the Telugu people here with active co-operation from Telugu associations and people from Bengali community has turned this dream reality.
Telugu people coming from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have dreamt of a Telugu medium school for offspring where their children could be enable to read and write their own language which is their heart indeed.
And the dream came to reality in 1958. Sri Potti Sriramulu Andhra Primary School was established. It was a recognised in 1960. Later on Mahesh Sri Potti Sriramulu Andhra High School was recognised in 1968. Later on, new needs followed. Students wanted to appear in Class X examination.
Students in the past had to travel to Andhra Pradesh to appear in Matriculation examination. But the growing indomitable spirit of Telugu working class community and he cooperation from administration and political leadership, people’s representatives in Bengal have made it possible to start Class IX in 1979 and Class X in 1980.
