History

Serampore Girls High School, established in 1879, is one of the premier educational institution located in Battala, Serampore city in the Indian State of West Bengal( Hooghly District). Being located in the Akna Mouza in Serampore, the School is popularly known as ‘Akna Girls’. Serampore Girls initially functioned as a primary school and with the march of time, the school got upgraded to Secondary and Higher Secondary School and became the first Higher Secondary School in the vicinity between Konnagar to Chandannagar to get recognized and approved by the University of Calcutta in 1937.It was then that the female students from Konnagar to Chandannagar had to come to Serampore Girls High School for their Higher Secondary Education.

The school acknowledges the significance of values in shaping the character of a child. Ever since its inception, this pedagogical institution attempts to leave no stone unturned to cater to the academic and scholastic excellence of the students and makes special efforts to instil in every student a sense of discipline, integrity, honesty, justice and righteousness.

The Secondary Section (V-X) is under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, Kolkata ( Secondary Branch), Bikash Bhavan, Kolkata-91. The Higher Secondary Section (Classes XI-XII) is under the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, Vidyasagar Bhavan, Kolkata-91. In the Session 2019, the school received santion and approval from the Directorate of Secondary Education, Bikash Bhavan to start the English Medium from class V.

So presently, Serampore Girls’ High School is running a full fledged H. S Bengali Medium School as well as its English Medium wing.
