History

The great social reformer pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar first realised the necessity of woman education for the wholistic development of society and therefore he setup many girls' school. Later following the nobel mission of him, some people who were interested in education also took initiative to set up a girls' school at kenjakura to provide opportunities of schooling for girls in this rural area.In this regard the role of Jamini Ranjan Kar, Bansidhar  Kar, Gaur Chandra Adhikari, Swarnakamal Dutta, Kasinath Kar, Kalipada Kar etc can never be forgotten. Mr. Swarnakamal Dutta, the former lecturer of Bajkul college, East Midnapore and Mr. Gour Chandra Adhikari during their visit of this village had thought to start a girls' school to educate the girls on all front their dream soon turned into a reality when with the active support of the local intelligentia and common people,The foundation stone of the school was laid on 23rd January ,an auspicious birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, in 1972. Having started with a temporary shed and a handful of girls students, Kenjakura Damodar Balika Vidyalaya (H.S.) has come a long way in course of time and become one of the prime centre of excellence for learning to girls in this rural area.This school is now the only H.S girl's school in the whole Bankura 1 Block in the district Bankura with an exceptional track record of success both in the scholastic and co-scholastic field.

On the way to this progress of the school along with local well-wishers the founder headmistress of the school Mrs. Santi Nandy, and other teachers like Smt. Ganga Das, Smt. Shipra Das, Smt. Nibedita Paul, Smt. Bithika Chakraborty, Smt. Mukul Maity, and Smt. Gita Mandal played an outstanding role and gave their best. The school has now an enrollment of near about 1100 girl students. Under the efficient leadership of existing headmistress of the school, Mrs. Rama Mukhopadhyay, the school has an environment which is not only child friendly but also conductive for girls to learn and have fun at the same time.The school has 26 efficient, caring and dedicated teachers who play an instrumental role in shaping the lives of  girls towards its bright future over coming all the challenge. It is a proud privilege that the school is going to celebrate it's glorious fifty years' journey with a promise that it will carry the legecy forward with same zeal and commitment in time to come..
