BIRSINGHAPUR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL: A BRIEF HISTROY

Birsinghapur Junior High School has been tirelessly continuing its blessed mission of kindling the light of education for over a decade. As a part of the nationwide Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan operational since 2002 and the Right to Education Act implemented in 2009, both central and state government agreed to the proposal of establishing new setup junior high schools to ensure the scope of free education up to class VIII to each and every student within three kilometre radius of his or her residence. With thousands of such other schools, Birsinghapur Junior High School got its government recognition in 2009. On practical ground, the school ultimately started in late 2009 with 34 students in class V and two guest teachers appointed by the Ad Hoc Committee as per recommendation by Govt. of West Bengal.  As the school is located in a complete rural area, the students were mostly first generation learners. Indeed, the first few months were extremely challenging as the school had zero infrastructure, no building and no aid. At this point, the school finds itself grateful to the authorities of Birsinghapur Primary School for extending their helping hand and sharing their tiny primary school building with the newly recognized junior high school. The school is also sincerely indebted to the generous villagers who decided to to establish this instituion. As a result of the combined effort of the villagers, the teachers, the members of the ad-hoc committee and a host of well wishers, the school building was raised in 2010 with only three classrooms. . Slowly but surely, one additional classroom, ladies and gents toilet, mid may meal shed were built, tube wells were bored and other grants for maintenance and development were sanctioned. Three teachers and a non teaching staff were appointed through WBCSSC. As time progressed, the school building was further developed, electric connection was established and computers were installed to give the educational institute a modest form. Though the path was thorny, Birsinghapur Junior High School has never digressed from its primary mission, educational empowerment of the learners. Struggles were there, struggles are still there, and struggles will be there, but Birsinghapur Junior High School will continue its inspiring journey, through all its rough and smooth, towards greater glories and achievements.
