History

Ukhradihi High School (H. S.), not only the pride of the locality but also the pride of the district starts its journey as a Junior Basic School in the year 1952. The Ramkrishna Sevadal Ashram, Amarkanan stretched their helping hand so that a school can be set up for the economically backward people of the area like Ukhradihi. Some local people came forward and donated land to setup the school. Without the contribution of those people it would never be possible for such a seed to grow up into blossoming tree.

It was the year 1958 when the Junior Basic School also converted into a Senior Basic School where along with imparting basic education training in weaving. Carpentry was started being provided. All was possible due to the farsightedness of the them great personality GOBINDA PRASAD SINGHA. He said his dream will come true only when the “Adibasi Girls of the locality leaving all their household activities will come to the yard of the school”. His dream has come true. Now about 75% of the students belong to ST community and among those students 80% of there are ST girls.

The program of the school continued. The Senior Basic School was converted into a Junior High School when the education department took up the charge of the school and school came under Grant-in-Aid on and from 01.08.1979. The school ran two hostels for ST Boys and also SC Boys (for 20 students each). The school become so popular in the locality that the school administration had to start school attached hostel for the General students and also for ST girls’ students. Presently there are about 300 hostellers are availing the hostellers’ facility.

The local demand and the earnest effort of the teachers raised the school into a Madhyamik School. As per education department letter no. 1669-Se(S)/35-21/98, dt. 23.12.2005 w.e.f 01.05.2005. Since the first year the students have been coming our successfully with brilliant result and glorifying the school.

Although there were no adequate teachers the present teachers took up the responsibility of teaching subjects for Higher Secondary level and as per G. O. No. 369/SE/S/(HS)/35-06/11 dated 19.02.2013 the school has been upgraded into a higher secondary school. It is running well with both Science and Arts stream. The educational department has sanctioned three posts in Chemistry, Political Science and Philosophy but the school requires teachers in Mathematics, English and Bengali along with Biology for smooth conducting of the classes in H. S. section.

The has a Vocational Training Centre since 2006 with affiliated to WBSCT&VE&SD. This centre offers 10+ and VIII+ Level Course.
