History

Village Bhatra and it's surrounding villages were remote, nestled between woods and lacked suitable paths for communication. So the children of the lower middle class working people were deprived of higher education after completing primary schooling. This was a cause of concern for those villagers who were fond of education. To get rid of this, they alongwith others, having similar bent of mind, from the surrounding villages, had a potential and fruitful discussion. Accordingly, a meeting was called in an evening, in the year 1970,in the holy premises of the ancient Durga temple and a collective decision, to set up a Junior High School was taken, to spread the light of education. The proposed school was named Bhatra Sri Durga Vidyayatan. The villagers were  passionately dedicated to fulfil their dream, and so they donated both money and land for this revolutionary purpose, sometimes even depriving their own successors. Thus, 2.4 acres of land was acquired and the voluntary labour of the visionary villagers resulted in the construction of the school. Finally a managing committee was selected by the villagers and Sri Dibakar Mandal was appointed as the first Headmaster of this dream institution. Finally the school started on the auspicious morning of 10 th January, 1971...... a small but firm step that gradually changed the lives of the village children. With sincere and cordial effort from all, the school was upgraded to 2nd class Junior High School, by West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, vide memo no. 718/Jr, Dt 23/08/1974. The journey continued and the school was further upgraded to 8th class school vide memo no. 372, Dt 11/10/1991 and then again upgraded further to 10th class Madhyamik School in 2008, vide memo no. S/Recog /2008/646, Dt 15/01/2008 and hence came to be known as Bhatra Sri Durga Vidyayatan High School. Presently this school is being run and managed as a Govt. Sponsored Institution. Right from it's beginning this school is nurturing the dreams of hundreds and guiding the students through the illuminating path of education.
