History

Gourbazar High School started its journey in 2008 though as a Junior High School and at a different location. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education gave the recognition as a Class VIII, Bengali Medium, Co- Educational Junior High School in the month of May in 2008. The School was then situated in the premises of Harirampur Primary School which is about 200 meters away from the present location and shared their buildings as classrooms as its own buildings were yet to be built. The school started with classes V and VI.At that time no regular teachers were appointed in the school. The onus was on three guest teachers who guided and moulded the school and gave it a concrete shape before finally delivering it to the hands of the regular teachers who came to the school a year later in 2009. It was a significant year. The first appointment of regular teachers took place and the school had its first regular Teacher-in-Charge. Three permanent Assistant Teachers of English, Mathematics and Geography arrived at the school through West Bengal School Service Commission, class VII started and more significantly the school was transferred from Harirampur Primary School to its present location and campus. In 2010, class VIII started and two more Assistant Teachers of Bengali and Bio. Science were appointed through W.B.S.S.C. to fulfil the present strength of five teachers. The first batch of students completed their academic course in class VIII in 2011. In 2012, the first appointment of a non-teaching staff (Group 'D' Peon) took place. Gradually the school flourished in structure and strength, 2016 was the year for the school to leap a step forward as the school was upgraded as Class X, Bengali Medium, Co-Educational High School.Admission in Class IX happened for the first time in 2017. In 2018, the school was granted the revised administrative status of a 'Govt. Sponsored High School’ from a Govt.-aided High School. In 2019, the maiden batch of Madhyamik students passed out from the school. Over the years from its inception our students, our teachers and non-teaching staff, guardians, management bodies, self-help groups and the people from the locality have contributed to the development of our school a multitude of ways. We are proud of our history and educational legacy.
