Kotalpur M E school was auspiciously inaugurated on May 19, 1891 AD, on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, 5th of Jaistha in Bengali year1297. The Munsefs of the local Courts and members of the Bar Council were more active in establishing schools. Babu Neelmadhav Bhadra Mahashay of local Bhadra family, Babu Ramdayal Bhadra Mahashay Bhadra family members, local educationists were in cooperation. The Munsef of the Munsef Court was Babu Vidhubhushan Chakraborty Mahashay. In 1891, the members of the local Bar under the Presidency of the then Munsiff Babu Bidhu Bhusan Chakraborty and with the assistance of the local gentry of whom the late Babu RamDayal Bhadrą was the leader raised the same to the present status. of school.
The inspector report of Bankura district temporary sub-inspector Rameshwar Sen shows that the Government grant of Kotalpur High School in 1893 was Rs.28.
Kotalpur H. C. E. school was under the Calcutta University in 1895, evidenced by Calcutta. The Kotuns of the University are recorded at page 319 of the Calendar of 1895. At this time, the chairman of the university management committee was the Munsef Sahib of Kotalpur Munsef Court. This time the number of teachers. There were 6 and the number of students was 133.
Initially, the school had no class room, so the school classes were held in the bungalow of the Munsef Court compound. There were two bungalows at that time. N lived in the other Munsef. The school is running well. After that, a building was constructed on the empty space between the two bungalows and used for the school. The open space in front of the court compound was surrounded by walls. 1906 AD: When the Munsef Court was transferred to Bishnupur, then the Judicial Department of the Government Memorandum No. 1124 j dated 13th March 1914 by Order No. Munsek Court Building Kotalpur M. E. Hand over the school management committee.
The O Mali report of 1908 shows that there were then 63 secondary and 13 high schools in Bankura district. Ramanuja Kar's account of Bankura District and Bankura District Gazetteer mentions that only 9 schools received Government grants. The schools are- 1) Kuchkuchia Missionary High School, 2) Bishnupur High School, 3) Kotalpur High School, 4) Kuchiakol High School, 5) Sonamukhi High School, 6) Roll C. M. T. I., 7) Palashdanga High School, 8) Maliara High School, 9) Beletor High School. From 1894-1906 the grant was 206 rupees and from 1909 the grant was 278 rupees.
In 1339, Chandicharan Bhadra built the 'Neelmadhav Smriti Mandir' in the school premises to preserve the memory of his father.
Since 1952 the school has received Government grants. In 1954, the school received a Government grant of Rs. 3865.

The school dormitory was orderly. Then there were 6 hostels, to accommodate many external students, the hostels were- 1) Netaji Dham, 2) Aurobindo Dham, 3) Vivekananda Dham, 4) Sri Ramakrishna Dham, 5) Rabindra Dham, 6) Adarsh Dham. Each hostel housed 70-75 students, under a teacher superintendent.
In 1976 Mr. Ranjit Kumar Sarkar won the honor of Bankura district champion in the football game held among higher secondary schools.
Currently the school has e-learning system. Smart classroom has been launched in the school. Students of class V to XII are taught through 'audio visual'. As most of the residents of the neighboring areas are day labourers, there is a risk of dropping out of school after secondary school. So there is provision of technical and vocational education to the willing students after secondary examination. Vocational training is provided in carpentry, electrical work, fitting, automobile, computer repairing etc.
In 2024, the number of students in the school is 1255, the number of teachers is 34, the para teacher is 4, the librarian is 1, the clerk is 1, and the Non teaching staff is 2.
