History

With tireless effort of some local educationally interested people , to reduce the pressure of huge flux of students upon two nearby schools, namely, Mejia High School and Mejia Girls' High School, a school named Sukanta Smriti Vidya Mandir came to realization and was inagurated in the building of Tarapur Primary School on 18 th of May, 1999 in presence of the then BDO of Mejia Block. The school started as an organising school where some local energetic youths worked voluntarily as teachers without any remunaration or honorarium. Late Mr. Shatrughna Sinha was the first Headmaster of Sukanta Smriti Vidya Mandir(Organising) school. The School was recognised as a New Set-up Co-education school upto class-VIII in the year 2000 when the school building was shifted to the plot of present land donated by Subrata Das who inherited the property from his father and other local enthusiastic people who donated their lands received as Patta. In the year 2005 the school was up-graded to a co-education Madhyamik School and in the year 2012 the school was upgraded to a Higher Secondary school. From its very inception the school was Govt. Aided school. But in the year 2016 the school earned the status of a Government Sponsored school.
