History

Anulia Mahamaya Vidyamandir Girls’ High School (HS) is an educational institution catering almost thousand aspiring students of the locality. The school started journey with a handful of students in 1958. Every beginning has a beginning also. In 1937 much before independence, a few progressive and educationist persons of three adjacent villages Baneswarpur, Ramchandrapur, Anulia all agribased villages incepted the idea of establishing a girls’ school in the area. But, the effort could not take momentum in the British colonial era. 

After independence,  responding to the call of the great Bidhan Chandra Roy for establishing in every hamlets of the villages one charitable dispensary and of course a girls’ school Pandit and Acharya Haranath Chakraborty in association with the progressive persons of the area founded this school in a hut in the then Mechohata,  Unfortunately it rendered into ashes by a sudden fire. The indomitable persons of the locality came up with donating land, money and even labour to rebuild the school in 1952 with four rooms only besides the road the present location of the school. The school started with students from class I to Vi. In 1958 the school was separated from the primary section and started functioning as a junior high school with new name “Anulia Mahamaya Vidyamandir”. In 1968 the school was recognized upto class ten and in 2012 it has been affiliated to the WBCHSE.

The less privileged people and the girl students are now ambitious with the school. The seeds of education sown in 1952 has now become a tree of hope for everyone.
