History

The founder, Late Bibhuti Bhusan Dhar initiated female education at his own residential house with a handful of girls way back in 1959. Later on, he along with some good Samaritans institutionalized this effort of spread of female literacy in the area and formed a Girls' Senior Basic School with classes V to VIII in 1960. The school was named after the deceased wife of Bibhuti Bhusan Dhar, Menoka Devi. The School got recognition from West Bengal Board of Secondary Education in 1967 and was upgraded to High School. The schoolgot further extention till Class X in the year 1974. In 2005, the school got recognition from the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education and was upgraded to Girls' Higher Secondary School.

In its 60 years of long journey since inception, Menoka Smriti Vidyamandir has undoubtedly carved a niche for itself in the field of women's education and emancipation in Amta Block II of Howrah Disrict.
