History

Salkia Hindu High English School was established long before the national freedom movement of India got momentum, on the 20th of February 1899 by Mr. G.D Banerjee, and others. For about 50 years the school had no building of its own, not even a definite address. Our StaffBut people were always interested in this school. They started taking classes in different places even in their own drawing rooms. It was Mr. Jagabandhu Ghosh, Mr. Gaurhari Ghosh, Mr. Sachinandan Sinha and others who in the fourth decade of the last century chose the present site of the school on a disputed land measuring about two bigha and ten katahs. Immediately after securing the land the main building was constructed under the leadership of Mr. Bhairab Chandra Ghatak the then head master of the school. Due to its excellent reputation for good performance, more and more students started seeking admission in the school. According to the then Government rules the number of students couldn’t exceed a certain limit. In this situation a separate school firstly with two classes and then with four classes was set up in 1965.This new school was recognized as Salkia Hindu High School Unit-2 in 1973.

After the amalgamation of secondary and higher secondary section our institution now has its wings strengthened, aspiration realised. It was already a reputed school by then with its two parts separately administered. But once these two parts came under one roof there happened to be several extra feathers in its crown of glory. Salkia Hindu School (High and Unit 2) is now a name of that dream dreamt by our academic predecessors. From 2010 there was a surge of newly appointed teaching resources to make the amalgamation relevant with the meeting of two generations. One shares one's experience and wisdom while the other creates positive vibes and new zeal.

Our students are working in different fields with flying colours both in India and abroad. We are tied by a sentiment which is unique to us. So, during the procession on 23 rd January and 15 th August a long human chain is formed. We walk together. We here refer to everyone, students, freshers, ex students; just pass outs, retired teachers and guardians.

This institution is the flag- bearer of talents in art and music, in science and technology. Our sole attempt is to cultivate the potential, explore the possibilities and expand the horizon of teaching - learning process. There is a core committee who decides how to modify method of teaching. We organize parent teacher meeting at regular intervals, debates and quiz competition, science fair, and a grand prize distribution ceremony to recognize the unsung heroes of our school

We started with one hope which is snowballed into others' hopes to finally become a brand that needs no introduction...The small building has its extensions, laboratory, library, seminar hall and ICT facilities.
