
SCHOOL HISTORY
The Park Institution For Girls, one of the oldest school in Shambazar locality at Norh Kolkata, was established in January, 1955. Dearth of girls’ school of proven quality in the area made local residents coming together and the school came out of their initiative and funding. Late Debendra nath Mukhopadhaya was the founder-secretary & late Professor Sushil Kumar Acharya was the founder-president. Initially, as the school did not have its own building, it came up in the building of the school ’Park Institution for Boys’ at 12, Mohanlal Street, Kolkata - 4. It was a morning school at that time, with school hours from 06.30 hours to 10.45 hours. The school started taking shape as Smt. Parul Ghosh , became the Headmistress in 1957 and guided the school forward with her zeal & persuasion.The first batch of school students appeared in board examination in 1958.In 1961, the school got affiliation of Education Dept of West Bengal as a Higher Secondary School (up to Class11).Then only Arts stream was available. Later on, in 1967, Science stream was introduced, for which, permission was arranged for using the laboratory of the Boy’s School.The result was consistently satisfactory throughout .In 1976, school got affiliation as a Secondary school ( WBBSE ) .
In 1962, Honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Sri Prafulla Chandra Sen & erstwhile irrigation minister, Shri. Ajay Kumar Mukhopadhaya , handed over a plot of land, originally belonging to irrigation department & measuring about 9000 square foot, at 44 Canal West Road for setting up of own school building. The tireless efforts of the teachers & generous support from local people, fund for school building was gradually accumulated & ultimately Ground floor of the school building was built in 1975. On 25th January, 1975, the new building was inaugurated . The inauguration ceremony was presided over by honorable Health Minister Sri Ajit Panja and the chief guest was Honorable Ex- Chief Minister Sri Prafulla Chandra Sen. At that time, there was only the Primary section in that building which could be established with the support of former students & local ladies, volunteering to teach at a nominal basis. In 1978, a few classes of secondary section were shifted to this building on roster basis.
In 1980, 25th Anniversary of founding of school was organized in a befitting manner at Girish Mancha, Bagbazar in honorable presence of educationist Smt. Anila Devi, Sri. Bhabesh Mitra and other important personalities. Smt.Parul Ghosh achieved National award for her contribution in 1982.In 1995, the 1st floor & 2nd floor of the building was built with the help of fund from MPLADS and by public donations. Honorable M.P. Sri Ajit Panja kindly arranged the fund. In 2005, 50th anniversary of founding of school was celebrated in presence of Mr.Subhas Chakravorty, honorable Minister of Sports & other eminent personalities. In 2006, the entire school got shifted to its new building at 44, Canal West Road, Kolkata-700004 and school hours was changed to 11AM to 0430 PM . In 2013, free residential unit was set-up by Sarva Siksha Mission within the school premises to benefit the causes of children of financial backward class.
