History

Nearly seven decades have so long elapsed since Deshabandhu Vidyalaya began to emerge in North Kolkata as a sapling of education. Some eminent persons of Ultadanga and Manicktala areas, all of whom were preferably immersed in the notes of patriotism fell on wholeheartedly to do something for the poor people of the locality and the refugees coming from East Bengal. This institution originated its name from Deshabandhu Chittaranjan Das. This heartiest efforts combined with meager amount of donation resulted in the setting up of the institution on 17th January 1952 as a primary school where the act of teaching had been performed with utmost love and care for the learners in a few huts. Through the decades, innumerable students have continued to brighten the performance of this institution both in learning and sports and games.

Now the institution is a spacious three storied building where the classes of the primary section and the secondary girls’ section are held in the morning and by the day time, the classes of the boys’ secondary section are conducted. This institution is at present adorned with an enriched library, a laboratory, a newly decorated audio visual computer room and above all, a host of efficient teachers to instruct and monitor students. The most striking aspect of this institution lies in the fact learners here are instructed in a most loving and caring atmosphere with emphasizing on the value of character.
