History

Ahiritola Banga Bidyalaya, a Government Sponsored Higher Secondary School, formerly known as “Jadu Pandit-er Pathshala” , was established in 1859 by active patronage of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar. The piece of land on which the present building of the school is situated at 80, B.K.Paul Avenue, Kolkata-700 005 was bought from Calcutta Improvement Trust. Benevolent help and active endeavour of some eminent people of Sovabazar, Ahiritola and Garanhata, the then epicentre of education and culture of Bengal , helped the school to become an institute of repute. The school is now administered by a valid Management Committee consisting of members from all strata of the society , guardians and the faculties of the school.
