History

Victoria Institution was started by Brahmonanda Keshab Chandra Sen on Ist January 1871 at 13, Mirzapur Street as an adult education centre for women. Next year a girls' school was introduced Victoria Institution is the result of woman emancipation and woman literacy movement carried forward by Brahmananda Keshab Chandra Sen and his followers. After his sad demise his work was carried forward by Gourgobinda Roy and other educationist of keshab circle.The school was registered by its present name 11th august 1910. The school was affiliated to University of Calcutta in 1911.

                                       Keshab Chandra eldest daughter Maharani Suniti Devi of cooch bihar purchased her father's house, created a trust and donated the house to Victoria Institution. Till to day the school is held in that very house Kamal Kutir.Bidhan Chandra Roy was associated with the school as trustee, Secretary and President from 1926 till his death in 1963. The Institution is carrying forward this glorious tradition till today.
