History

Kamala Girls'School was founded on 2nd January of 1932 by Dr. Amiyanath Basu in the memory of his sister-in-law Kamala Basu, daughter of well known Historian Ramesh Chandra Dutta and wife of famous Geologist Pramathanath Basu. Kamala Basu sought to empower women of all classes and felt that the root of empowerment lay in gaining education. She herself started educating women with the vision to make them independent. Keeping her ideals in mind her brother-in-law founded this institution after her death. The present school building was established at Lake Road Extension in 1956. Renowned scientist Rajshekhar Basu was an advisor in constructing the laboratories for different science subjects. The famous theater personality Shambhu Mitra helped in designing the architecture of the stage in the auditorium.

The school has reached its high level of excellence due to the dedicated team work of administrative and teaching, non-teaching staff members, govrning bodies, students and their guardians through these years.

From 2015 Kamala girls'school has categorized as Govt. Sponsored school by the Dept. of School education, West Bengal
