
The school was established in 1945. In forties Tollygunge was an underdeveloped suburban part of Calcutta. The school was started as a primary school in a small room in the municipal office building on the Prince Anwar Shah Road. Jitendra Nath Sengupta was one of the founders of this school.
After partition people from east while East Pakistan came to West Bengal and as a result Tollygunge soon densely populated. The number of students increased and the school developed into a high school under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education in 1954 and was shifted to a spacious, rented building. Very soon the school established itself as one of the best girls' school in Tollygunge due to good results and co-curricular activities. The school was upgraded to class Xl in 1963 under the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. Soon after a plot of land was allotted by the Chief Minister B. C. Roy. In 1965, the former Chief Minister P. C. Sen helped the school in getting possession of the land on a long-term basis.
The construction of the present four storeyed school building was possible due to contributions of teachers, non-teaching staff and well-wishers, who took part in charity shows year after year.
The school has become an institution nourished and developed by love and devotion of the people of all categories of the society.
