History

Lake View High School is a renowned Higher Secondary (boys) school of South Kolkata. It was established in 1940; during a time of turbulence due to the Independence Movement of our country. Mr Motilal Das the founder Headmaster felt the need of an educational institution for the children of this area. With the help of a few educationists and enthusiasts, he finally founded Lake View High School in 1940 in a rented building at 65 South End Park, Kolkata 29.This primary school grew as a higher secondary school gradually only for his zeal and resilience. This eminent educationist also started a girls’ school in the same building during morning hours. This institution got its own building in1967. Starting from a rented building, now this reputed institution is gloriously situated at a three storied huge building with a big auditorium of its own at P 9, C.I.T. Scheme No 72, Panchanantala Road, Kolkata -29. It has Science, Arts and Commerce stream for the higher secondary section. Well-equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geography help our students to have a clear knowledge in their respective subjects.The present administrative body of this institution has felt the need of the day and has started Smart Class in a technologically equipped smart classroom. This institution has also encouraged its students to participate in NCC, Eco-club, students’ parliament, various cultural competitions, and sports like football, rowing, water polo etc. Our students have won acclamation nationally and internationally for their excellence in various sports. Our students have proved their worth in educational field also. Persons like Dr. Ujjwal Kumar Basu (Ex- President, WBBSE), Dr. Utpal Roy Chowdhury (Professor, Dept. Of Food and Nutrition, Jadavpur University) are some of the eminent alumni of this institution. This institution believes in the blending of venerable tradition and new exploration. Teacher-student relationship gains a wonderful dimension in its friendly environment. All the staffs aim at the excellence of their students. The institution has taken great strides for the progress of its students and the locality.
