
Tollygunge High School, now TOLLYGUNGE BANGUR HIGH SCHOOL(H.S.) was established on the auspicious 9th day of January, 1933. It is not only the oldest school in south Kolkata but also one of the best schools in the locality. Respected Jitendranath Sengupta(then member in local corporation), respected Moulabi Hedayetulla, respected Sadatulla took major initiatives and established the school in the year 1933 in the main building of then Calcutta Corporation, located at Prince Anwar Sha road with the help of so many well wishers including then Pourapita of the Corporation. In the year 1935 Calcutta University recognized the school as High School(class-X). It was the beginning of its journey to serve the society. In the meantime reputed MANGIRAM BANGUR AND COMPANY donated its 11 Katta land at the present address i.e. 34, Golf Club Road,Kolkata-33 and gave a huge financial support to set up the three storied building. In order to honor this great donation the school was renamed as TOLLYGUNGE BANGUR HIGH SCHOOL in the year 1952 at its present address. In the year 1959 the school was upgraded to higher secondary school(XI class) with science, arts and commerce streams. In course of time so many benevolent people and government grants have raised the school to its present elevation.
This school bears a glorious history. It is playing the important role since its birth to shape persons of character, conscience, commitment, compassion and competence , who having been enriched to take challenges of life in the fast changing society. It has nourished so many scholars and personalities who have glorified the school by serving in all fields of life all over the globe.
