
Haltu High School is Government Sponsored High School at Haltu, Nelinagar, Kolkata 78 by the side of Haltu School Road.
In the 1950’s refugees from Bangladesh made colonies and named sfter great personalities like Asutosh Colony,Suchetanagar,Nelinagar.Nelinagar was named after Nellie Sengupta (took participation in the Indian freedom struggle and served as the President of the INC),with the time passing they realized the necessity of establishing a school. In 1956 Haltu High School started its journey near a grave yard under the shade of corrugated tin without any chair or bench.In,1962 the school was affiliated and in the 1980’s due to increasing the number of students the school was divided and Haltu Girls’ School was separated from Haltu Boys’ School.
After 1969 no HM was there upto 2006.At that period of time the number of students falls down gradually due to the change of Socio-economic environment.
Most of the students of Haltu High School come from a nearby “Home” .The others are the local inhabitants.
Today the school is much modernized, with the help of MLA fund, MP Lad and also with the help of Sarva Siksha Mission. A three storied and another two storied building with an attractive Play ground draws one’s eye. Library with thousands of books and the Computer room with ten computers, projector and printer (ICT) bring the students into a domain of dream. The students are well disciplined .Madhyamik Result is satisfactory and Haltu High School takes a foremost position among all the schools in the locality. Students participate in Mock parliament, Science Exhibition, Excursion (Science City, BITM, Cultivation of Science), Model Competition (BITM) regularly besides the Annual Sports , Annual Function, Saraswati Puja , Teachers’ Day, celebration of National Days,Nirmal Vidyalaya, ECO club etc. The school publishes its magazine “Prayash” regularly with the help of students and teachers.
A healthy society will be produced by the students of Haltu High School –is hoped by all.
