History

Diamond Harbour High School (H.S.) is situated in a nice natural setting. It is Located at the Junction of Centenary Road adn the Marghahat Canal Road (South) leading to the embankment of the river Hooghly. To the North of the school there is a Naval Coast Battery of the Military Department and to the East of the School there is the Diamond Harbour township through which Diamond Harbour Road Passes. The trees fringed with the green foliages beside the Magrhat Canal Road present a panorama of natural beauty. In the serene and tranquil coastal environment the school has gradually developed and flourished into a renowned Institution for decades in the district of South 24 Parganas.

This school was founded on 10th december,1988. To zamindars,  late Manmatha Nath Mondal n late Mahendra Nath Patra,  took initiative and render monetary help in setting up the school.  One Mr. Gomes, the then postmaster of Diamond Harbour Post office , render necessary advice,  council and full co-operation in the establishment of the school.  He was the main inspiring and guiding post behind the noble activity.

It was mainly through strenuous attempts of Mr. Gomes that the school was affiliated from the calcutta university first w.e.f. with effect from 10.12.1888 for imparting secondary education from classes V-X.

  • 1910 – Matriculation – Calcutta University
  • 1952 – School Final – W.B.B.S.E.
  • 1957 – Higher Secondary (Arts) – W.B.B.S.E.
  • 1958 – Higher Secondary (Arts and Science) – W.B.B.S.E.
  • 1964 – Higher Secondary – (Arts, Science and Commerce) – W.B.B.S.E.
  • 1976 – Madhyamik – W.B.B.S.E.
  • 1978 – Higher Secondary (XI-XII) – W.B.C.H.S.E. (Arts, Science and Commerce)

At present it is Diamond Harbour High School (H.S.), government sponsored. The normal section (V-X) is only for the boys. Only the H.S. section of the school is co-educational. At present there are 1035 students in normal sections and 520 students in the higher secondary sections.

The school is maintaining the uniformity of good result. The school reached the peak of brilliant result in 1938 when Subal Sakha Mondal of this school score first position in matriculation examination in the then undivided bengal. In 1928, Achyutananda Ghosh stood fourth in the matriculation examination. In 1939, Shridam Sakha Mondal stood nine in the matriculation examination. In 1945, Nirmal kumar Sarkar stood fourth in matriculation examination. In 1977, Debabrata bhattacharya of this school secured eighth position in madhyamik pariksha. In recent years there are exceptional and glorious result in the school. In 2016, Monalisha Halder stood eighth in higher secondary examination and in 2017, Swayamtrabha sahu and Sayantani Purkait jointly secured seventh in the higher secondary examination. The general result of the school are uniformed and satisfactory. In addition to these the students of this school are glorifying excellently in different competition in sub division and district and state level.

There are spacious and well lead classrooms, laboratories, library, playground, dining hall for the students, office rooms, staff common rooms, centenary auditorium and reaching the school.

Days and years are passed through stress and strain but teacher – student relationship has remained unaffected. Nothing has made it discordant and embittered so far. The relationship between them is very sweet and cordial. The teachers teach the students in that true spirit of teaching and learning. A feeling of love and affection for the students and a feeling of respect and reverence for the teachers and staff of the school bringing them very close each other.
