History

Krishnamaya Memorial Nepali High School presently located in Ashrampara, Siliguri was then known as Burma Busty. Late George Mahabert Subba, a well known visionary, philanthropist and social worker donated a parcel of land to carter the educational needs of the students. After acquiring the land, Late Mrs. Krishnamaya Gurung after whom the school is named began the construction of school with the help of other social workers. The school in its nascent stage provided education to students from both Nepali as well as Hindi medium. Krishnamaya Memorial Nepali High School, have come a long way since its inception in the year 1961. Unable to accommodate the influx of students, in those times, the school was bifurcated in the year 1979, to cater to the specific needs of the local students, into Hindi medium Shewmangal Hindi School and  Krishnamaya Memorial Nepali High School. Further to enhance our motive to serve the community with quality education, KMNHS got recognition as a higher secondary institution in the year 1989. There was no looking back after that and we have added a variety of subjects to provide a wide range of choices, to the students, according to their individual interests. Guided by our motto- “Quality Education for All”, we have upgraded from being a secondary school, to the only Higher Secondary Nepali school (co-educational), offering plus two educations, in all the three streams, viz. Humanities, Science and Commerce.

Krishnamaya Gurung Seni: Late Krishnamaya Gurung Seni, a well known philanthropist donated her entire life savings for the construction of the school building. For her overwhelming contribution towards the society, the school has been named after her.

George Mahabert Subba: Late George Mahabert Subba was a renowned landlord, first Chairman of Siliguri Municipal Corporation and MLA from the region. Apart from his social and political stature his contribution towards community and society was above par. Krishnamaya Memorial Nepali HighSchool stands firm and tall in the land donated by this generous personality.

Charles Mahabert Subba: Son of Late George Mahabert Subba was a prominent social worker and a philanthropist. His visionary ideas for providing education to students from Nepali speaking community changed the lives of innumerable students. His contribution towards affiliating the School in West Bengal Board of Secondary Education will always be remembered.
