History

Ramjhora Bazar Hindi Higher Secondary School enters its 50th year with the confidence and assurance to keep spreading education to even the poorest of the poor.

The journey of the school began in 1971 when it was established as a junior high school by a group of social visionaries of the area. Late K.B. Lama, Late G.P. Yonzone and Late Laxmi Narayan Agarwal were the great souls who foresaw the significance of setting up of a middle and high school at Ramjhora Bazar, a tiny hat market with a few hundred population then. They realized that the entire area surrounded by several tea gardens was black shrouded by the darkness of illiteracy and ignorance. If the future generation of the poor tea garden labourers are to be enlightened, the setting up of school was the only way out. Hence, they summoned a meeting with the respected members of the society from all nearby tea gardens on a Tuesday afternoon on 7th July,1970. It was overwhelmingly resolved that the school would be set-up at any cost and the classes would be started from the upcoming academic session 1971.

A school setting –up committee was formed and Late K.B. Lama with the active support of many education  enthusiasts of the locality championed the task of collecting fund required for the initial establishment of the school in the area. In no time and with active cooperation of one and all, the school actually came into existence with the sweat and sacrifice of local people. Late K.B. Lama here deserves a special mention with the able mentorship of Late G.P. Yonzone. Slowly, the school progressed as the local people reposed their faith on the institution which is known for its discipline and dedication of its teaching and non-teaching staff since its inception. The school got recognized by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education after a prolong effort in 1992.Then in 2009, the school was upgraded to Class XII with Arts Stream vide memo. no. G.O. No. 93- S.E.(H.S.)   dt. 17.08.09.

. The school has a huge, very well planned and exquisitely constructed three storeyed  building with about 40 class rooms. Recently, the school got its entire campus fortified with the erection of wall all round it with the Capital grant. At present, the school has been serving the society in great spirit and thousands of students who have come out of this school over the years have really done all of us proud .

Ramjhora Bazar Hindi High School (H.S.) is a co-education school. It is situated at Ramjhora Bazar in Madarihat, Alipurduar amidst the picturesque flora and fauna of beautiful tea estates at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. The misty blue hills overlooking the north of the school fill our mind and soul with aesthetic bliss. It is an institution that has been serving the people and the locality for  the last five decades. It is a West Bengal State Board Higher Secondary school, with a team of 26 dedicated and professional faculties, which are here to ensure that the children get the most from their education. Hindi is the primary medium of instruction.

Classes from 6 to 12 run in this school. 1600 is approximately the current student strength of this school.

The role of the institution in casting off the dark covering of ignorance, illiteracy and other social stigmas gradually from the lives of the people of the area is invaluable. Prior to the establishment of the school, the whole area within a radius of approximately ten square miles was one of the most backward places of the country. However, thanks to the humble endeavors of some of the stalwarts of the locality, education was chosen as the catalyst for change. Through their unrelenting efforts, these conscious noblemen along with the  enthusiastic people of Ramjhora T.G. and its surrounding tea gardens like Dhumchipara T.G. , Tulsipara T.G. , Garganda T.G., Lankapara T.G., Hantapara T.G., DalmoreT.G. and Makrapara T.G.  set up a school at Ramjhora Bazar. This invaluable institution now has been providing a better and brighter future for the children.

Since then even the locality has improved in every way. The school has proved to be a beacon of light for the people of this region in the realm of darkness, prejudices and superstition.

Today, the whole school family as well as the people of the locality can not but salute the sincerity, selflessness and sacrifices of those visionaries who took great pain and defied all odds to lay the foundation of the school. Late K.B. Lama, Late G.P. Yonzone and Late Laxmi Narayan Agarwal deserve special mention who pioneered in setting up of the school. Sri Sushil Jha, the Ex-Headmaster and 'Shiksha Ratna' Awardee by the Government of West Bengal who retired from his service in 2016 after an illustrious and dedicated service in this institution for more than four decades also played an incredible role in making the school what we find today. Under his able leadership and patronage, the school scaled many glorious heights in the fields of academy, sports and many other activities. With the hearty cooperation of one and all, the school strove from strength to strength at all stages so far. It has become a centre of enlightenment and illumination for about  two thousand budding kids today and for many more students of future. At  Ramjhora Bazar Hindi High School (H.S.), we strive for excellence in all our pursuits – academic, sporting, spiritual and cultural. The children are given the best possible opportunity to fulfill their potential in life and grow into mature and responsible citizens of our country.
