History

Gangotri Higher Secondary School is a Government sponsored school located in 13th mile Ecchey Busty in the district of Kalimpong. It is a co-educational institute. It was founded in the year 1933 by a local resident Sri D.K. Dahal. During those days there were very few schools and were not affordable by the local masses. D.K. Dahal started Gangotri School in a small thatched hut in the hope that all the children whoever sought education may find it in his school. Further from Junior high school it was upgraded to high school in the year 1984. In the year 2012 it was further upgraded to HIgher secondary School. It is one of the schools which was established in pre-independent India and it imparting education to students of the surrounding rural areas. It conducts classes starting from 5 to 12 and it is recognized by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

The primary spirit of the school on which it was founded is not lost. The school still aims to provide high quality education to all the children of its community and more along with the development of skills and character formation. The principle of the school is to focus on the all-round development of children with the view of making them better citizen of the nation and prepare to face the challenges of life.
