Lingsey High School was established on the 15th of February 1981, in the interest of the local people of Lingsey and Lingseykha Gram panchayat. The First Meeting for the foundation of the School was held at Lingsey Shivalaya Mandir under the Chairmanship of Late. Jit Hang Subba, Ex. Pradhan of Lingsey Gram Panchayat. The meeting formed an Organizing Committee to which the following Office Bearers were elected. President Late. Hari Prasad Niroula, Vice-President Sri B.S.Subba and Treasurer Late Narapati Niroula. Late. M.O.Lepcha, Late. Prajapati Poudyal, Late. Narapati Pokhrel, Late. Ghanashyam Poudyal, Sri. C.P.Dhakal, Sri. C.P.Subba and Sri. Chandrabir Darjee formed the rest of the Executive Members.
It was decided to run the School as a Junior High School at Lingsey Shivalaya Mandir area owing to its central location of the Gram Panchayat. The First Classes was started at the Bhawan of Nari Samaj Committee of Lingsey at Shivalaya Mandir premises. The Committee also appointed the following volunteer teachers, Late. Arjun Niroula as the Headmaster, Sri. C.P.Poudyal, Sri. S.K.Dhakal, Sri. D.P.Pokhrel, Sri. K.P.Poudyal, Sri. H.B.Pokhrel, Sri. Omkar Niroula and Sri. Ishwar Sharma (Non-Teaching Staff).
The founding years were fraught with numerous obstacles. The major portion of the founding Staff also left for want to support. The reluctance of the State Government to grant recognition to the school further compounded this situation. It was only after the formation of the DGHC that the then Area Councillor Shri. Dawa Pakhrin, who initated the process of recognition for the school. The School was finally granted probationary status as Junior High School in the year 1997. Eight Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff were appointed. Formal recognition was granted to the School in 1998 from the Government of West Bengal. In 2011 it was upgraded to a High School.
At present the School has 19 permanent teaching and non-teaching staff that serves 295 students. The Managing Committee has already started the process of Up-grading the School to a full fledged Higher Secondary School from 2019.
