In 1926, Kandara, a small village in Katwa subdivision was typically a backward village in Bengal. But some people always think in a different way. Six energetic young men Promod Dhar, Deboprasad chattopadhya, Provash Roy, Narayanprasad chattopadhya and Bholanath Banerjee founded ‘Haridas Memorial’ School in a mud house. Initially students upto class VI of ketugram would come here for learning. In 1953 the school was renamed ‘kandara Jnandas smriti vidyalaya’ after the name of famous Baisnab poet Gyandas. In 1976, the school was upgraded to class X and in 1986, to class XII. The students of this school started to appear in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Board exams. Gradually the school established itself as the most outstanding school in ketugram as well as in katwa. Now the school has Arts and science streams in Higher Secondary with the facility of laboratory, library, gymnasium, computer classes etc.
