Sailabala Balika Vidyalaya was founded as a Junior High School with two classes (V & VI), taught in two rooms of the Basic School in 1961 at Churulia. In the beginning, there were only handful of girl students attending classes from the nearby Churulia Village.Gradually more and more students started coming from neighbouring villages of Chinchurbul, Anandapur, Govindapur, Madhudanga, Rakhakuria and Deshermohan. As the number of students grew higher, the problem of accomodation arose. Hence, the School was shifted to a library named "Shyama Sanskrity Opera" situated in the Churulia village. Later on it became a Junior High School, teaching four classes from V to VIII.Mrs Mukti Bhattacharya was the first teacher. As the role strength grew another three teachers joined. In 1963, Mrs Sandhya Ghosh joined as Headmistress of the school.Sailbala Sadhu a respectable lady leaving in Churulia village, donated six bighas of land, on which the school is situated at present. The school was thereby named after her as "Sailabala Balika Vidyalaya".
