Established on 3rd Feb 1941, the school was initially known as Durgapur Taraknath High English School.It was a residential school consisting of 50 students.The first Headmaster of the school was SUDHAKAR ACHARYA.He remained at office till 31.3.44.The first Secretary was HEMCHANDRA MUKHERJEE.
The land of the school was donated by the Mukherjees of Nadiha and the Chatterjees of Gopinathpur.DAYAMOY MUKHERJEE the fifth son of TARAKNATH MUKHERJEE donated 4 acre 30 shatak of land for the purpose of building a school.The school was thereafter named as TARAKNATH HIGH ENGLISH SCHOOL.
