History

Asansol Chelidanga High School (H.S.) was established on 16 January 1953. Earnest efforts of such education loving persons like Purna Chowdhury, Abdul Majid, Prafulla Kumar Ghosh, Tara Shankar Ghatak, Upendra Nath Mondal and many others took shape as this Institution. The land for this Institution was donated by Zanab Abdul Maji and Upendra Nath Mondal donated twenty thousand rupees for the construction of the School building. The respected teachers at the initial stage of this school were Shantimoy Chattopadhyay, Neelkamal Basu, Kshetra Mohan Gope, Abdur Rauf. The School was upgraded to Higher Secondary level in the year 1990. At present at the Higher Secondary level there are three streams, Science, Humanities and Commerce. The School has well equipped Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Computer Laboratories. The School also has a library containing 5000 books. There is an ongoing Mid-Day Meal service in School. The School Annual Sports Meet is held every year. Some of the noted alumni are Mr Ram Sevak Bandyopadhyay (I.A.S.), Prof. Manas Bandyopadhyay, Professor, The University of Burdwan and Dr. Pradeep Banerjee (M.D.). The School celebrated its Golden Jubilee in the year 2003.
