History

The country had been independent for just a few years. Everywhere there were walks of mass-education. Holding hands in this endeavor in the year 1952, Late Dr. Joygopal Sharma, Late Santosh Roy, and Late Dr. D. D. Ghatak founded a school in the barrack of Late Nalini Das with the help of some enthusiastic people (from south-Dhadka depot para) interested in education. Initially, the school had been named as ‘Railpar High School’. Afterward, Railpar High School had been shifted to Late Ramtirtha Bhandari’s own home in Barua barrack, Dhadka road. With a handful of students, the effort of indoctrination continued. Railpar High School had been renamed as ‘Dhadka High School’. The search for a bigger and better land went on in parallel.After some time, with the immense and restless exertion of honorable persons like Late Dr. Joygopal Sharma, Late Santosh Roy, Late Hariprasad Bagchi, Hemendralal Mukherjee, Mahadev Mukherjee & some educationally enriched people (from south & north Dhadka, Shitala, Sarakdihi, Gopalnagar, etc.), a perfect land had been found for the school in the west side of Asansol Polytechnic College beside Dhadka road. The land (3 bighas) was donated by Late Gopinath Lahiri in memory of his one & only descendant Late Narayan Chandra Lahiri. The land registration was done in 1952 and the managing committee was also constructed in the same year. Later on, the school authority had purchased some more land (15 bighas approx.) which contained some lands of Late Satyacharan Lahiri and Kashiswari Devi.

On 5th January 1953, Dhadka High School started a new chapter. It began its journey on the present address with 160 students and some rooms covered with asbestos sheets.After few days as per the commitment, Dhadka High School got its present name i.e.‘Dhadka Narayan Chandra Lahiri Vidyamandir (Higher Secondary, Co-Education,Govt. Vidyamandir gained a massive reputation by constantly supplying fresh talents to the society (Courtesy: Historian, Litterateur & Scientist Dr. Hasanur Rahman, Golden Jubilee speech, 2003). The school has been giving a very tough competition to other schools since 1953. Till now, Dhadka N.C.L.Vidyamandir has produced innumerable students who achieved higher positions in their profession as well as in their life. It has gifted so many people who are called the backbones of our society. When the journey began, about 80% of the students were firstgeneration learners. Students from Dhadka N.C.L. Vidyamandir are scattered across different countries and they are appointed in various professions around the world.Previously, students like Debranjan Roy, Debabrata Sarkar, Biman Bihari Das, Subrata Lahiri, and many more had made Dhadka N.C.L. Vidyamandir very proud with their extraordinary results. This continuity never ended. In 2000, Mr. Aritra Bose had secured 19th rank in the state merit list by scoring 746 marks in the Higher Secondary Examination.

In 2013, Mr. Shubhamoy Chakraborty had secured 6th rank in West Bengal Higher Secondary Examination from this school. Very recently, students like Mr. Samiran Gorain, Mr. Anirban Bhattacharya, Ms. Shreya Chakraborty, Ms. Priyanka Tafader etc. have glorified Dhadka N.C.L. Vidyamandir with their brilliant results in the state board examinations.The school takes pride in its discipline and the inexplicable relation between student & teacher. Every day the school starts on time after the prayer. Students go back to their classrooms after paying respect to Swami Vivekananda. Each branch of Dhadka N.C.L.Vidyamandir (Science, Arts & Commerce) is the pride of Asansol.

Respected teachers of this school provide ethical lessons along with subjective lessons to the students. Students are indoctrinated with the mantra of- “Knowledge is Power”. They are also taught that “Life is not a bed of roses but full of thorns”, “Fame gives immortality” & “Study is the main pursuit of students”. Students are told not to forget their parents,society, and country after reaching higher stakes in their life.Every year, students participate in the ‘Tree Plantation Program’ under the guidance of respective teachers.

The cleanliness of the school is properly maintained every week. In the year 2013, the school was awarded ‘Nirmal Vidyalaya Puraskar’. In this school,events like Annual sports day, the birth anniversary of eminent persons, Annual function, Independence day, Republic day, Teachers’ day, Kanyashree Day, Safe drive-Save life, etc. are observed with devotion and magnificence. Dhadka N.C.L.Vidyamandir has got paramount importance in the field of ‘BHARAT SCOUTS & GUIDES’.

The school has got a beautiful Library and a Gymnasium with the generous contribution of Mr. Malay Ghatak, Honorable Minister of WB Govt. Apart from that,the school has developed a well-equipped Science Laboratory, a Computer Laboratory and a Geography Laboratory for the betterment of the students.With the essential studies, Dhadka N.C.L. Vidyamandir pays greater attention to the upliftment of the students in the field of various games & sports for their sound health.The school has got a very large playground adjacent to it, which is probably one of the biggest playgrounds in Asansol that any other school can ever have. In this field also,students have made this school proud. The cricket team has participated in a state-level tournament and reached a valuable position.

Now let’s talk about some people who have generously stretched their hands for the uninterrupted development of this school. Some are continuously serving so that the pride of the school remains unquestioned. Some of the names are Mr. Souripada Chatterjee, Mr. Deben Haldar, Mr. Manik Ch. Roy, Mr. Girish Das, Mr. Sudhir Krishna Mukherjee, Mr. Kanailal Acharya, Mr. Ashoke Mukherjee, Dr. Somenath Majumdar who were designated as Headmasters. The cordial support of the existing managing committee under the presidentship of Mr. Subal Chandra Ghosh, teaching and nonteaching staffs of Dhadka N.C.L. Vidyamandir under the acting Headmaster (TIC) Md.Habib Midda are still helping the institution for getting better than the previous.Whatever Dhadka N.C.L. Vidyamandir has achieved today is because of the all-round effort of its well-wishers. Words cannot explain the contributions of those people. Being one of the best schools in the whole district, Dhadka N.C.L. Vidyamandir would still be a dream for us if the united effort didn’t come into play.
