History

Asansol Joharmull Jalan Institution , one of the oldest and best known bilingual educational institutions, was established in the year of1933 on the land donated by a successful businessman and an educationist of eminence belonging to Jalan family in the Bastin Bazar situated in the heart of the city of Asansol . Officially recognized as a 10th class High school on 1st January 1943.,the school got Permission to teach  up to class XI  on 1st April, 1959. On July 1st, 1976, the school was recognized as a full-fledged High school. On May 1st, 1972, the school came under the Grand- in-Aid Scheme.The school has a long and hoary tradition since independence. The school was at the forefront of the district in terms of examination results, sports and other co_curricular activities and conducting various government examinations with credit.The age_old heritage of this institution is still felt today in its multi,_dimensional assignments catering to the needs of the learners coming mostly from the under_priviledged segment of   the society. At present, the school is functioning very smoothly with about 900 students of two mediums and 31 teaching and non-teaching staff.This two storeyed school building has adequate classrooms, library,  laboratory,computer learning center etc.There is a hall with about 350 seating capacity along with separate toilets for students and teachers.  Moreover necessary arrangements are there for cooking and distributing Mid-day Meals in strict unison with hygiene protocols.The school has facilities for teaching in the arts, commerce and science Stream at the Higher Secondary level. The untiring efforts of the teachers,staff,and the gurdians have turned this institution into a prestigious one.Numerous meritorious students of the school are  established in their respective fields at home and abroad. Consistent efforts have been made to cope with the problems the school faces today in a fast _changing socio-economic strata ..Lastly, our school is a small  but co_herent embodiment of the concept of Unity in Diversity that characterises our beloved motherland, India.
