SMT.JARAO DEVI BALIKA VIDYALAYA started its journey in 1945.Barakar is a small town  in West Bengal , Jharkhand border . It was famous for its coal mines . It was an economically developed town before Independence . The development of the education system was not upto the mark. Renowned industrialist and Social worker ,MURLIDHAR DUDHANI donated three rooms in his own house  in Station Road , Barakar to eshtablish a girl school in memory of his beloved wife , Late SMT. JARAODEVI. At that time there was no schools for girls .It was first started as Hindi medium Primary school, Bengali medium was added later. The school was first recognised as Junior High school in 1954, later on it was recognised as 10 class High-school in 1978. In view of poor condition of the age-old school building , the school was shifted to Riverside Barakar in 2012.
