              BIDHAN SMRITY SIKSHA NIKETAN(H.S), one of the oldest and best known  educational institutions, was established in the year 1976 on the land donated by some successful businessmen and educationists of eminence belonging to Damra, Ghusick, Kotaldihi and adjoining areas at the outskirts of the city of Asansol . Officially recognized as a 8th class High school on 01/01/1986, the school got Permission to teach  up to class 10  on 01/05/1995. The school was recognized as a full-fledged High school on and from 01.11.1989. Permission for teaching the Higher Secondary Course was received on 14/10/ 2015.The school came under the Grand- in-Aid Scheme with effect from 27/03/1990.The school has a long and hoary tradition since it's inception. Dr. BIDHAN CHANDRA ROY, the renowned physician and the former Chief Minister of West Bengal happened to come to the village of Damra and some of the villagers dedicated to the cause of Mass Education proposed him for a school. Dr. Roy, the visionary readily accepted the proposal and expressed his desire to inaugurate the school but due to his sudden death, he couldn't do so. The Founder figures of the school then decided, very aptly, to name the school after the sacred memory of Dr. BIDHAN CHANDRA ROY .The school was at the forefront of the district in terms of examination results, sports and other co-curricular activities and conducting various government examinations with credit. The age old heritage of this institution is still felt today in its multi, dimensional assignments catering to the needs of the learners coming mostly from the underprivileged segment of   the society. At present, the school is functioning very smoothly with about 911 students and 17 teaching and non-teaching staff. This two storied school building has adequate classrooms, library, laboratory, computer learning center etc. There is a Hall with about 350 seating capacity along with separate toilets for students and teachers.  Moreover, necessary arrangements are there for cooking and distributing Mid-Day Meals in strict unison with hygiene protocols. The school has facilities for teaching in the ARTS Stream at the Higher Secondary level. The untiring efforts of the Teachers, Staff, the members of the MANAGING COMMITTEE, the guardians have turned this institution into a prestigious and promising one. Numerous meritorious students of the school are established in their respective fields at home and abroad. Consistent efforts have been made to cope with the problems the school faces today in a fast -changing socio-economic strata. Lastly, our school is a small but coherent embodiment of the concept of Unity in Diversity that characterizes our beloved motherland, India.
