From the Head Of Institution Desk

South Calcutta Girls High School— A small school in Balaram Bose Ghat Road with a heritage of its own and to which we are all proud to belong. I, Swarupa Das Gupta feel both honoured and blessed to head the school as the teacher-in-charge and work with students , though small in number ,whose innocent smiles, immense love and indomitable desire to learn give me and all my colleagues great inspiration to share our knowledge with them. Though the students come mostly from underprivileged families,  a set of dedicated teachers take care of each individual student according to their merit and attitude. The students are taught, revised for the examination in the school itself as they do not get enough academic assistance at home.

Besides academics, the students and teachers actively and enthusiastically take part in the school programmes like Republic Day ,Saraswati Puja , School foundation day, Raksha Bandhan,  environment Day, Independence Day etc and make these programs highly successful. Birth anniversaries of great personalities like Rabindranath Tagore, Vidyasagar, Swami Vivekananda are celebrated with great respect and honour. The students pay respect on Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary to the great teacher and perform a grand function absolutely under the supervision of the senior students of the school. Children’s day is also celebrated with great enthusiasm and due respect to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The annual prize distribution programme and annual school sports are also great success every year. All the students do yoga to celebrate Yoga Day under the supervision of the physical education teacher and other teachers. The midday meal is cooked and served hot and fresh every day according to the menu fixed by the government, with all protocols maintained.  And the students enjoyed the mid-day meal very much

Besides these the students and staff have been the proud participants in Kanyasree day function which was highly applauded appreciate, and praised by the concerned authority. We have also been participating in dengii awareness campaign, Netaji Jayanti rally from Kalighat to Northern Park, Nirmal Vidyalaya programme et cetera. Our school has been the proud recipient of Nirmal. Vidyalaya award. The school has a child cabinet as per the instruction of Sarva Siksha mission and the Cabinet runs successfully for the improvement of the school environment and holds session time to time to report its work.

The students did a rigourous martial art course conducted by the government in two phases. Eye check up and health checkup programmes are also conducted at least once a year and spectacles and medical advice are given accordingly to the students. The teachers of the school also have to act as counsellors at times as the students come up with very personal family problems to share with the teachers.

The students also participate in various interschool competitions like essay competition, recitation competition, drawing competition et cetera and also have brought prizes for the school and made us all proud
