In April 1981, under the guidance of the then Headmaster, Late B.B. Kharga, the Bloomfield Primary School was upgraded to a high school. With active leadership pf Shri B.B. Kharga an organising committee was formed with Late Lokenath Jaisi as the President and Shri Kharga as the secretary. Other members included Late H.B. Chhetri, Late N.B. Rai, Late Shiv Kumar Rai, Late L.B. Moktan, Late R.S. Thapa and other members of civic society. Money collected as donations from the public was utilized to build four rooms from which four junior classes were started. The resposibility of teaching class V to VIII was handed over to Mr Taramani rai (Ex- Headmaster), Mr Nawin Gurung (present In-Charge), Mrs Manju Thapa (present Asst. Teacher) and Mrs Meena Chhetri (later left the school). The task was formidable but the commitment to fulfill the duties and responsibilities was strong.
After much hard work and pleading, the Organising committee was able to bring a School Inspector for inspection and initiation of the process for recognition of the school as Junior High School. Subsequently inMay 1989, the school obtained recognition for the Government as "Bloomfield Junior High School". However, despite being granted recognition as Junior High School, and after the appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff, ther was no proper building for the classes. Moreover, without classes IX and X, the school faced a lot of problems regarding Madhyamik Examinations of its students who had to sit for the examinations with affilaitions from other recognized High Schools.
In 1996, Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council and its chairman Late Subash Ghisingh helped in construction of a 2- storeyed building and gave a fresh life to the school. After much persuasion and hard work, the school was finally granted recognition as a High School in the year 1999.
Bloomfield High School has since the provided noble education to thousands of students from surrounding villages and tea gardens and also from nearby town areas. The Madhyamik result have also been satisfactory. Besides the good results, BHS has also encouraged its students to participate with enthusiasm inthe various national and state events and programmes, including observing birth anniversaries, festivals and othe important recognized dates.
In 2018 Independence Day celebration, BHS was awarded the Second position in Parade performance. Our Students also got the oppurtunity to participate in the state-level Essay writing competition organised by Govt. of West Bengal to observed the Kanyashree Prakalpa Diwas. BHS has also successfully participated in various games and sport events, world Enviroment Day, Cultural Programmes, District level Science Congress and many more.
The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration is committed to the enhancement and development of school educaiton in the Hillsin order to bring about over-all qualitative betterment in the Education system. In this regards Shri Binoy Tamang, ex-GTA chairman, has provided immense support to the school. Under his guidance and initiative, we were able to build three more additional class-rooms and a Hall. We remain forever indebted to him and to the GTA for this support.
Last year in 2019, the school was brought under the GOvernment-Sponsored system from the previous Grant-In-Aid system. We hope that this change will bring about more facilities and opportunities for the school. All teaching and non-teaching staff and Managing Committee are sincerely committed to the educational development and upliftment of the school and are workingtirelessly towards it.
The School has also applied for the Up-gradation to +2, Higher Secondary education. This will essentially benefit all those children from nearby villages and tea gardens who have to travel long distances to HS Schools.
