History

Established in the year 1946 by Swami Prabuddananda, a disciple of Swami Abhedananda of the Ramakrishna sect Sardeswari Government Girls High School was named after Maa Sarada Devi ,the holy consort of Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa . The school initiated at The Hermitage was previously the property of Late Maharaja Jagaddipendra Narayan Bhup Bahadur of Cooch Behar from whom it was purchased as early as 1946 by the then Managing Committee. Sardeswari was accorded Its Governmental status on 18th of February 1974 and is at present the only Government school for Girls in the District of Darjeeling .The institution ever since its inception caters to the education of the girl students of grass root population especially the children of tea garden workers .It stands out among leading schools of Darjeeling striving toward the educational upliftment of the girl child .
