History

The Hemkumari High School, situated in the heart of the Hemkumari Gram Panchayat area, of Coochbehar district and in the vicinity of Indo-Bangladesh border and by the side of Chilahati border road. Hemkumari High School is renowned to be one of the oldest and leading institutions for modern education of this locality. It was established in 1961 by the persons interested in education like former BSF commander Bangshidhar Choudhury, Padmanath Ray Patowary, Batakrishna Barman, SudhirdebAdhikary, Rajkumar Ray, Sahiruddin Sarkar, Prankrishna Ray and others in a visionary and ahead-of-era with the intentionto delivermodern education to the young generation of this interior villages. Before establishing the Institution there were no other facilities for attaining secondary education. The enlightened personnel Mr. Bangshidhhar Choudhury thought that at least Secondary education is a must for the learners at young stage before achieving higher studies and felt the necessity of modern education. This was also keenly realised by the common people who had to carry a constant interaction with the local influential and educated person. The common people of the locality paid their impart to establish the institution.  And the then recently qualified graduate young persons like Haripada Roy, Bhupal Chandra Ray, Prafulla Kumar deb Adhikary, Mihir Kumar Roy and others have taken part to reach the new students until the Institution was recognised and affiliated. The school got recognised in 1968 as a Junior High School and it was it recognised as Secondary School in 1981. At present the School is upgraded to Higher Secondary School in 2012.
