Situated at Narayanpur village in the western part of Birbhum district adjacent to the Jharkhand border under Rampurhat sub-division, Narainpur Mission Girls' High School is reputed to be one of the biggest institutions for spreading education among the backward and downtrodden people of India. It was in the year 1924, Rev. H.P.H. Kampp (a Danish Missionary) came at Narayanpur and found the place dull, dismal and deserted. Still he selected the place for his work. The village was inhabited by a small number of people mostly from backward class living in darkness. He came here to bring them to light. But it was not an easy task. Oppositions came from the side of the village people, who were illeterate and ignorant. Rev. Kapmm realised that primary step is to educate them - to bring them to light. His patience, perserverance and endless efforts helped him to come out successfully. Rev. Kampp and Mrs. Synge Kampp started their ministry in a humble way, with great difficulty they collected five or six students to open their first primary school in a small mud house in 1926. Gradually the number of students increased and the school began to improve slowly. On their prepared ground the other missionaries worked successfully. S. Johansen, Ms. Inger Malmstrom, Ms. Inger Krog. Nielsen, P. Kjolberg, Lilly Petersen, Ms. B. Harager and Ms. Ellen Laursen (last missionary) followed their footsteps. Their dedicated, endless and untiring labour bore fruit. Today we see big buildings stand high with joy and laughter, music and songs of 1200 students are resounded in and around the school campus.
