History

At that time, about fifty five years ago, there was no high school in the vicinity of Dhanicha village which is situated approximately 5 km from Chakdaha, which is a small town in the district Nadia. The students at that time who wanted to go to a high school from Dhanicha, had to face several obstacles. The roads were not only narrow but also they remained muddy especially in the rainy season. The economic situation was also least favourable. So an initiative to find a solution to this problem began. It began with a vision – a vision for students who irrespective of language, creed or colour would grow up in an institution devoid of racial prejudices, would be able to express themselves fearlessly and be taught by teachers totally committed to the cause of sound, all inclusive and value based education. To set up a high school at Dhanicha village a general body meeting was convened on 1 November, 1964, by some conscious and enthusiastic people of the village. The meeting was presided by Sri Hiralal Mitra. A resolution to set up a high school was passed in the general body meeting. The meeting also proposed that the school would be recognised as ‘Dhanicha Junior High School ‘.
