Dhanyakuria is a small village in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Jaminders of this village, Sawoo, Ballav and Gaine were very educated and honorable families. They wanted to educate the villagers, so they established Dhanyakuria High School in 1885 and later they set up Dhanyakuria Junior Girls’ High School in the same campus.
In 1969, the Education department had undertaken the school under of Govt. of West Bengal. Teachers and staffs were appointed thereafter. Over a long period (1969-2004), the school ran as Junior Girls' High School without any electricity and basic facilities like proper toilet. There were only 3 classrooms that time.
Under the leadership of present headmistress Mrs. Suvra Ray, it was converted into High School in 2005. Also, the classrooms were electrified. Arsenic-free drinking water made available.
School building was re-constructed with more number of classrooms & toilets and legal marking of the land was done. Subject-wise teachers were appointed. Also, the classrooms were being equipped with modern facilities.
The school was upgraded to Higher Secondary in 2014. The school complex is having 22 classrooms in present days. There are adequate number of teaching and non-teaching staffs to monitor students.
Computer classes, medical facilities for students, distribution of IFA tablet, Karate classes etc. are arranged as per Govt. instructions. Also, all the guidelines have been thoroughly followed for Kanyashree and other schemes of Govt.
The school premise brought under CCTV surveillance. Mid-day meal is prepared by self-help group in a dedicated place within the school area, since last few years. Also, vocational training is being provided by experts, under the supervision of Headmistress.
In 2018, the school won ‘Nirmal Vidyalaya’ award, scoring highest in the district in cleanliness and other aspects. In 2019, our school crossed Golden Jubilee year and a grand celebration was arranged for that.
There are ample examples of successful achievements of our students both in academic, sports and extra-curricular activities. In fact, our students score highest mark in Madhyamik examination within the block for last few consecutive years.
