Our History
Situated at Kestopur adjacent to V.I.P Road, Prafulla Kanan Deshapriya Vidyamandir(H.S.) is the outcome of the tireless efforts of some of the enlightened folks of the locality as they believed in the mantra of spreading education among the youth of the then Kestopur, a growing suburb near Dumdum airport. The school building was erected in the year 1953 on the land provided by Prafulla Kanan Samabay Krishi Samiti under the supervision of the patronising figure of late Prafulla Narayan Mallick who himself was a renowned freedom fighter. His love for education and heartfelt compassion for his countryfolk prompted him to take such a daunting initiative of building a school for the local children who were mostly first generation learners. The locality of Prafullakanan is also named after this great personality.
