KANCHRAPARA H. E. SCHOOL MAGAZINE.
Year 2. AUTUMN 1951.
About Ourselves.
By the grace of the Almighty, our school has entered into the third year of its life. During this short existence she has been advancing along the path to improvement, in slow but steady strides. The roll-strength has considerably- increased, the proposed school building with brick-walls and corrugated iron-sheet roofing has been partially competed, furniture and the library have been improved, the old rooms have been provided with ceilings and a puma latrine and two urinals have been set up. The Girl•' H. B. School which was started B 1950, is now a full-fledged institution with a roll-strength of about 250 pupils and with a complete staff consisting of a B. T., Headmistress, a B. T., a.. Headmistress, two lady graduates, one lady under-graduate and one B. A. plucked, Kavyatirtha, Head-pandit. The school has been inspected by the Chief Inspector of Schools and we expect to obtain recognition for the Girls' School before the expiry of the current session.
We note with a deep sense of sorrow that Sri S. N. Dutta, the founder Secretary to the school, has resigned his office as Secretary on account of his transfer from Kanchrapara. For the last few months, he has not been able to look into the affairs of the school. as carefully as he would, from a distance, and therefore, has handed over the charge to some local enthusiast. We have, how-ever, this much pleasure and consolation that Sri Datta has retained his membership of the committee and has promised to guide the affairs of the school by his wise counsel, from time to time. We extend our sincere congratulations to Sri Datta on his promotion to the rank of Assistant works manager which was long overdue for him and we wish him a happy career.
We welcome Sri Makhan Lal Chakravarty, our new Secretary and offer our hearty congratulations of his election as such. The choice of the committee has fallen on the right person. He is a worthy successor of his illustrious predecessor. He has been taking very keen interest in the welfare of the school and attending the construction of the school building, almost every morning and evening, even at a sacrifice of his personal interest. It is due to his herculean efforts that the construction work has been progressing so rapidly and satisfactorily. In this respect Sri Chakravarty is being assisted by Sri Bireswar Das who has been serving the institution as one of its members from its very birth. Sri Madan Mohan Das also has been rendering valuable services to the school and Sri Nirapada Roy.
It is a matter of deep regret that Sri B. N. Mustafi, M. B., been resigned his membership of the school-committee. He is one of the founders of the school and took very affectionate interest in its welfare. He is the busiest medical practitioner of the town and his preoccupations prevented him from attending to the affairs of the institution, for some time past. This is why he tendered his resignation. Though out of the committee, he cherishes great love for the school mid is never failing in his wise counsel to it, whenever any is needed. Dr. Mustafi paid Rs. 250/- as the first installment of his promised donation of Rs 1000/- to the building fund of the school. Sri U. V. Chatterjee, President of the committee pool Rs. 10I/- and Sri Gosto Behari Naudy, member, paid Re. 200/- as donations to the building fund. We extend our grateful thanks to these donors. Other donations have deer acknowledged elsewhere. 5 We note with a sense of sorrow, the departure of the following members tel the teaching staff of the school, from amongest us.
They left the school to join the services of other institutions.. we miss their company very much., but we congratulate them. We wish them good luck.

We have got a very good team of teachers who are all quite earnest and sincere in performing their duties to the school. They are doing useful work in the academic, physical and cultural developments of the pupils in their charge. Our Headmaster who is a vastly learned and experienced man, is also taking keen interest in the various act, ties the school to make it an ideal institution. Tutorial classes and weekly examinations are held and individual care is taken for the academic improvement of the pupils. Moral instruction class is held every Saturday to improve the moral side of the boys. Noticing the earnestness of boys for moral instructions and being encouraged by our Headmaster I myself took the initiative in imparting moral instructions to the boys and the 7th April, 1951 the first lecture on the subject was delivered. It is a hopeful sign that an increasing enthusiasm for receiving moral instructions being observed among the boys. We hope, with the Cooperation of my learned colleagues I shall be able to render valuable service to our students through this organization. Physical education also is steadily progressing under the fostering care of Sri Rameswar Pant, B. A., Dip. in-Phy.- Education, the physical Instructor of the school. Our boys did very well in the Inter-School sports, held in February, at Belgharia, and won Second Championship in the whole sub-division. The details of sports—activities will be found in the article of Sri Paul. A pleasant function was held at the school on the 1st Baisakh. 1358, B. S. The students, both boys and girls, participated in and enjoyed it very heartily. The students of the girls' section performed recitations, dialogues, dances and songs. Some of them were quite excellently done. The vocal music of Gayatri Banerji of class X, the dance of Gita Mnkherji of class IX and the dialogues of Namita Mukherji of class X, in the role of Karna and Bela Bhowal of class IX in the role of Kunti, in Kama Kunti Sambad were quite enjoyable. The tablean of Ptijarini staged by the girl-students was also of a very high order. Credit is due to our Headmistress Miss, Suhash Neogi, B. A., B. T., who is a great artist herself, for the success in the performances of the girls. The boys staged a drama, called Pandit Biday. It is also successfully played, Its it could not be finished due to disturbances from out-side,
The result of the school at the last Matriculation examination has been anything but satisfactory. The number on the roll in class X. was 105, of which 103 were sent up and only 19 passed, one in the second and 18 in the third division. Though we have very poor explanation to offer for this deplorable result, yet it will not be out of place to mention here that indiscriminate admissions, irregular teaching for want of sitting accommodation and liberal sending up of candidates were at the of the root of mishap and these are circumstances which a new school can hardly avoid. We, however, assure the patrons of the school and the guardians of the pupils that we shall spire no pains to achieve better results in the examination, in future and we hope, through the grace of the Almighty, our aspirations will be fulfilled. We are very glad to let our patrons, well wishers and the guardians of boys know in this connection that our school has been sanctioned a capital grant of Rs 25500/- by the Relief and Rehabilitation Department, Govt. of West Bengal, for the construction of our school buildings. We hope our school buildings will be completed in a very short time, after this grant is cashed.
