Genesis: In early fifties after India's independence there were a fistful of Hindi medium Schools in Kanchrapara and its surrounding areas. Such meagre number of schools were insufficient to meet educational needs of Hindi speaking children of this locality. To impart qualitative as well as quantitative education and to fulfil the aims and objectives of education the establishment of a well equipped educational Institution became inevitable. To materialise it Shri Badri Narayan Thakur and Shri Shiv Govind Thakur, philomaths approached Shree Mandhari Thakur, a successful entrepreneur for guidance and help. Shree Mandhari Thakur donated land for it. Necessary fund was donated by education lovers and benevolent people of the locality. On January 2, 1953 the foundation stone was laid down by them.

Nomenclature: The name of the Institution has been derived from the name of the land donor, Shree Mandhari Thakur and coined as Shree Mandhari High School. Later, after receiving recognition from WBCHSE, abbreviation of Higher Secondary i.e., HS was added to it.

Upgradations: Initially the institution was set up for Classes V & VI. Later, it was upgraded to class VIII and IX-X under WBBSE & XI-XII(Humanities Group) under WBCHSE in the years 1954, 1958 and 2009 respectively. The Institution is funded and administered by the Govt of West Bengal being a Government Sponsored Institution.

In view of the visions of the organisers, donors and our Government this esteemed institution is spreading its wings of education for the meritorious, privileged as well as under privileged mass of the society to impart quality education under the supervision and guidance of a well equipped team of teachers and other staff members. The health and hygiene issues of the students are addressed under WIFS. The eligible students also avail of other benefits under different government schemes.
