History

1970's -a turbulent time span in the timeline of Kolkata.But at the same time a greater Kolkata had been emerging from the cocoon of 'Calcutta'. During this expansion of the city, new areas had been developed , and added to this new communities had been set up and these communities were waiting for fulfilment of basic human necessities among which emergence of new educational institutions were demand of time.Laketown Govt. Spons. Girls' High School is the result of such a demand.

While Lake Town had been developing as a new addition to the city's address a specific place had been predestined to be setup as a school. The then Chief Secretary of West Bengal Shri B.R Gupta and Shri Gouri Shankar Pradhan, the secretary of Laketown Welfare organization and some well known socialities in month of September 1973, held a meeting and decided to set up the school in Laketown.

The first committee includes Shri Subodh Sen and Shri Sourindra Mohan Bhattacharjee was the first president. The first building structured with only 4 class room, 1 headmistress room alongwith office room. Smt. Pratibha Dasgupta, was first headmistress of this institution alongwith 8 other teachers. And thus, on 11th February 1974, journey of Laketown Govt Spons Girls’ High School started.

Initially the school was upgraded to class 4 Junior High School w.e.f. 1.1.74 vide no:-1846-Edn(S), then upgraded to X class high school w.e.f 1.1.76 vide Board’s no:- 4944/G dated 14.06.75 and finally upgraded as a Higeher Secondary school w.e.f 1.1.77, vide no:- 3388-SC/G dated 04.08.1977.

Currently, the school has 1735 students, who are carefully guided by 55 well experienced teaching staffs who are also supported by many non teaching staffs.

After completion of successful 46 years the 4 class room institution is now a 4 storied school building. In this long journey, the school was marked by various splendid milestones and the journey is still going on go spontaneously.
