History

The Foundation stone of BEGUM ROKEYA SMRITI BALIKA VIDYALAYA was laid on 12th Apri1,2000, in the premises of CJ-335, Salt Lake City, Kolkata — 700 091 where the present school is now held.

The school started its journey on 2nd May in the year 2000, in the premises on Bidhannagar Govt. School, Salt Lake. Classes were held as per the timings of the morning section of a Govt. School.

With Smt. Sudeshna Mitra at the helm as the Headmistress , the school started with a handful of teachers (on the first day) and about 180 students, from classes I to IX on the first day. Classes I to III had full enrolment of 40 in each class and other classes were less.

Initially, the school was in charge of a Managing Committee formed by the Directorate of School Education, Govt. of West Bengal that was headed by Smt. Mrinalini Dasgupta as President and Smt. Kabita Roy Chowdhury as Secretary. They worked hard to bring up the school’s own building in CJ-335 and Begum Rokeya Smriti Balika Vidyalaya shifted to this premise on 24thJuly, 2004. The first batch (comprising of five (5)students) for Madhyamik Pariksha appeared in 2002 and all five passed out in FIRST DIVISION. The 1St Higher Secondary Examination batch appeared in 2004 in the Humanities streme. Though a budding school without its own school building all sent up students of MP 2002, 2003, 2004 and H.S 2004 passed out in First Division and was awarded by the Directorate of School Education in 2004 on Teachers’ Day.

In 2018, the school now is a Higher Secondary Girls’ School with both Humanities and Science stream. Classes Preparatory to class V Form the Morning section and classes VI to XII Form the Day section.

The present total enrolment strength of the school is 720 students . So far it is a single section school with 23 teachers in the Secondary and Higher Secondary section and 7 teachers in the Primary section.

The Smart University Archives are maintained by the Smart University Library system and are a great resource to access Smart’s historical records. Harvard is perhaps best-known because of its enduring history of innovation in education. But even die-hard Smart buffs are not likely to know all of these Smart firsts and historical snippets.
