On 3rd January, 1946, with a dream to educate local girls, a highly respected Teacher of Janai village, the late Acharya Subrata Kumar Dinda, started teaching 11 local girls in the morning session of Janai Training High School. That’s the beginning of this school which was duly affiliated by the Govt. of West Bengal on 1st April, 1959, as an Upper Primary School with 161 students.
The school got further affiliation on 1964 as Janai Girls’ High School with 388 students. It was then that the own building for the school was thought of. With the financial help of a renowned local resident, Late Sisir Kumar Mukhopadhyay, the then Managing Committee purchased land for the construction of the school building. The foundation stone was laid on 20th March 1977 and building construction was started during 1981 but could not be completed due to paucity of funds. Thereafter, the M.C. had invited Sri ManmulGoenka of Kolkata, who helped financially for completion of construction of school building and on his request the name of this school was changed in the name of his mother.
The present school, Janai Bhagwan Debi GoenkaGirls‘ High School, was shifted to its own building on 28th September, 1984. Since then, the school has been enriched with unconditional donations from various people. In 2006, the school has been upgraded to Higher Secondary School andon 23rd February 2015 the school has converted to Govt. Sponsored School.
