History

BikramnagarHaranathNirodaSundari Ghosh Vidyamandir (H.S.), a Bengali medium co-educational school in Hooghly Chinsurah Municipality, was founded at Bikramnagar, Hooghly in the year 1964.

During the post partition era a new locality named Bikramnagar developed near Olaichanditala, Bandel. A resident of this area, a great philanthropist (Late)PramathaNath Ghosh, felt the necessity of establishing an educational institution especially for the children of the nearby ‘refugee colonies’ who had no access to the so called elite schools.

 He founded the school in memory of his parents Haranath Ghosh and NirodaSundari in the year 1964. In 1965, circumstances forced the shifting of the school to PramathaNathbabu’s house ‘Bikram Villa’ where the school buildings were later constructed. The school gate opened for a large number of first-generation-learners, who came from the economically challenged backgrounds, and for the girl students for whom education was just a luxury. Luckily, this institution got a group of dedicated teachers and non-teaching staff members who nurtured those young buds with love and utmost care. Who can one ever forget late Jitendralal Dutta(fondly nicknamed Chhanada) and his relentless efforts to develop the institution?

After Pramathababu’s sudden demise the school went through trying times. However, under the efficient leadership of the school authority and the then Headmistress (Late) Uma Sengupta, the members of the staff literally devoted their souls to strive against all odds. They admitted their sons and their relatives to this school and convinced the guardians that their children could find a new nest in this institution which would teach their young ones to fly on their confident wings. Many kind hearted persons contributed generously to raise the school’s Development Fund.This institution has had the honour of having advisors and benefactors like (Late) Satyanarayan Sarkar and (Late)Asutosh Ghosh.

 The institution got the affiliation from W. B. B. S. E on 1/1/1978 as a Madhyamik (Secondary) school. Later the school was upgraded to the Higher Secondary level in the year 2000, with Arts and Science streams running simultaneously.

 This institution, which had once been sarcastically referred to as ‘ChhanadarGoyal’(The cow-shed of Chhanada), eventually spread its rainbow wings. The old house soon grew into two imposing buildings called ‘Vidyasagar Bhavan’ and’ Pramatha Bhavan’ and brought more and more students in its fold. The senior faculty handed the batons over to a group of enthusiastic young teachers who are equally committed and fully trained to keep up with the changing time. This institution is grateful to all its well-wishers and retired staff who are the pillars of its success.

Despite certain infrastructural bottlenecks, our teachers always attempt to provide innovative learning environment to our students. The school has a library, well equipped laboratories, computer lab with projector and audio visual aids. Here learning and growing up happen in a cozy and interactive atmosphere. Ramanujan Eco-Club was established in our school to promote environmental awareness among our students. We have a club for Consumer Affairs as well.

The Golden Jubilee of this institution was celebrated with pomp and glory. Our students have excelled in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, have bagged prizes at state level competitions and won laurels in the field of sportsandgames. We have state level Kho-Kho players, gymnasts, athletes in our school. Our Mock Parliament team came runners-up at the state level.

Education at Bikramnagar Haranath NirodaSundari Ghosh Vidyamandir is a delightful journey with academics, assessments, co-curricular activities, excursions, annual sports and celebrations. We cordially interact with our pupils and guardians as they are our valuable assets. Our goal is to motivate our students to struggle, to strive and never to give up until they attain their goals. We foster dreams of tomorrow within the confines of our campus.
