Tribeni is a small town, situated on the West Bank of the Ganges, in Hooghly district. It is well-known as a ‘seat of learning and culture’. Hon’able Sanskrit pandit Jagannath Tarkapanchanan lived in this holy place.
But there was no provision for female education earlier. In 1932 a few educationists started a school for the girls of this locality in the ‘atchala’ of Late Dolgovinda Biswas. People called it ‘Chnapatalar School’ which is now known as Tribeni Girls’ High School(H.S.).At first the school had no fixed buildind of its own and classes were held at different places. At last 1934 Late Sayaram (Sahayram) Kundu donated 3 katha land for school building at Tribeni Kalna Road.
But at that time the conservative people were not in favour of female education. Some social workers and educationists went from door to door to inspire the guardians to sent their daughters to school.
Gradually the number of students increased and the first batch appeared in the Entrance Examination in 1963.In 1967 the school was upgraded to old Higher Secondary level and in 1998 was upgraded to new Higher Secondary (10+2) level. Now the school has its own three-storeyed building with an enriched library. Students have also got the facility of Computer Education. The school celebrated its Platinum Jubilee in 2007 and is advancing towards it’s Centenary.
